Standardized Costs
The costs depend on several factors. To illustrate, we can give an example of a 15-minute set (around 100 items for each respondent) on the final realized sample of 1,000 respondents from the 1KA panel, where the internal cost for projects within the FDV is around EUR 10.15 per respondent and EUR 0.68 per minute, which is EUR 10,150 for the entire survey (the overall response rate is 18%).
In the case of a longer survey, the costs per minute may decrease slightly, and in the case of a shorter one, they increase. Costs can be reduced if questions from multiple customers are combined in the same panel wave (e.g. two different 10-minute surveys). The prices listed can be reduced and closer to the internal price of FDV if the customer pays the costs directly to external subcontractors (e.g. postage, paper, vouchers).
For external clients, i.e. outside the FDV, the cost is slightly higher: EUR 15.10 per respondent (EUR 15,100). The stated item (€ 1.0 / min) is very favorable compared to prices in other countries, as the costs are almost nowhere below EUR 1.0 per minute (see e.g. OPPA).
The items listed are exclusive of VAT and reflect the current price and do not include additional costs for the combined survey method, but only for the online survey. Prices may change without notice due to various circumstances (e.g., changes in the prices of postal services and materials), so a specific offer must be obtained for each survey.
The above costs include standardised service:
- Basic review of the questionnaire (checking for language errors, correctness of set conditions, testing the duration and proper functioning of the survey) without corrections - errors are merely reported to the client. To aid in the self-evaluation of the questionnaire, we recommend a review according to the checklist.
- survey integration into the 1KA panel,
- technical inclusion of the questionnaire created in 1KA into the 1KA panel,
- online surveying (without combined methods, e.g. postal survey for non-Internet users),
- rewards for panelists (default reward is 5 EUR in advance),
- communication with clients and preparation of offers,
- preparation of a sample and a database of recipients for each letter and prize,
- preparation of the text of invitations and reminders,
- sending invitations (preparation of envelopes with letters and vouchers and delivery to the post office),
- monitoring the status of the survey while it is active,
- continuous telephone and e-mail support for panelists during the survey,
- communication with external contractors (voucher providers, post office, service providers - EPPS) for offers, etc.
- pickups and deliveries (vouchers, envelopes, etc.),
- preparation of the final database (1KA, Excel, SPSS formats),
- basic data quality controls: removal of empty surveys, bots, and speeders,
- default population weighting (if it is a general population),
- preparation of a standard methodological report on the implementation,
- standard summary (univariate analyses),
- analyses for standard socio-demographic subgroups (bivariate analyses).
In the case of a survey on a completely new probability sample that is outside the 1KA panel (response rate is around 35%), in the specific case mentioned (15 minutes and 1,000 final respondents), internal FDV costs amount to EUR 27.5 per respondent and EUR 1.83 per minute (total around EUR 27,500), and for external clients it is EUR 40.9 per minute of respondent's time (EUR 40,900).
In the case of a 30-minute survey (which is in principle possible with new samples), the price per minute is EUR 0.92.
Possibility of including questions for free
In the case of variables that are in the content (e.g. use of digital technologies) or in the methodology (e.g. areas where comparisons and validations of the representativeness of the 1KA panel have not yet been carried out), certain questions or sets can be included for free, especially if they exist in a certain wave of free capacity.
Additional Services
The above standardized costs, based on one minute of the respondent's time, do not include additional services that may be subject to specific agreements with the 1KA Panel, as they vary widely between surveys:
- additional application to the Statistical office for the needs of the research,
- inclusion of a combined survey method,
- development or assistance in the development of the questionnaire,
- setting up the completed questionnaire in 1KA (based on a template in Word),
- testing the questionnaire (according to the chosen approach to testing the questionnaire),
- additional interventions in data preparation: editing and eliminating low-quality units,
- advanced data controls (bivariate, multivariate and external controls),
- additional methodological analyses (e.g. non-response analysis, time stamp analysis),
- content interpretations and analyses,
- increasing the level of participation (e.g. increasing and expanding rewards, additional reminders),
- general methodological and statistical consulting,
- standard analyses by subgroups according to additional subgroups provided by the client,
- additional adaptation of the 1KA tool to the needs of the client's questionnaire.
The cost of additional services is based on additional material costs and estimated (or actual) work hours, where the Centre for Social Informatics' standardized survey pricing is used - see 1KA price list. Prices are 15% lower for projects within the FDV.
